The Megger Torkel 950 is a high-power, portable battery load unit. Its primary and most critical function is to perform battery capacity testing (also known as a discharge test).
Discharge Testing: It can run a discharge test in several modes:
- Constant Current (most common)
Constant Power
Constant Resistance
Pre-set Load Profile (to simulate a real-world load)
This test set is used to verify the integrity of critical DC battery banks in places where power failure is not an option.
Electric Utility: Testing station batteries in high-voltage substations.
Data Centers: Ensuring UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) batteries will perform as rated.
Telecommunications: Verifying backup batteries for cell towers and central offices.
Power Generation: Testing batteries used for emergency controls and turbine startup.
Healthcare & Industrial: Proving the reliability of emergency power systems.

On-Line Testing: It has the crucial ability to test a battery system while it is still connected to the load (in service). It does this by using an optional DC clamp-on ammeter to measure the load current, ensuring the battery is only discharged by the amount set on the Torkel.
Expandable Current: For very large battery banks that require more discharge current than 220 A, multiple Torkel units (or simpler Megger TXL load units) can be linked together and controlled from the master Torkel 950.
Standalone System (with BVM): It can be connected to Megger’s BVM (Battery Voltage Monitor) units. This is a significant feature that transforms the Torkel from a simple load bank into a complete test system. The BVMs are daisy-chained across each individual cell (or jar) of the battery, allowing the Torkel to monitor every cell’s voltage during the discharge test and automatically identify weak or failing cells.
Safety Features: It includes an emergency stop button, thermal protection, and automatic overload protection. It will also automatically stop the test if the battery voltage reaches a critical low point, preventing damage from deep discharging.
