The Digital/Analog Megohmmeter AEMC Instruments 5060 is the latest design in 5000V insulation testers. Features include automatic calculation and presentation of the Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), Polarization Index (PI) and Dielectric Discharge (DD).
The True Megohmmeter® Model 5060 displays the test voltage, insulation resistance and the leakage current during the test. Capacitance of the sample and discharge voltage present at the test leads are displayed at the conclusion of the test. This meter is designed with the highest level of built in safety features. The Model 5060 can be operated from an internal rechargeable battery or from AC line power.

- High Test Voltage: It can generate test voltages up to 5000V (5kV), with selectable fixed voltages (500V, 1000V, 2500V, 5000V) and a programmable variable voltage from 40V to 5100V. This wide range makes it suitable for testing a broad spectrum of electrical equipment.
- Wide Insulation Resistance Range: It measures insulation resistance from 30 kΩ up to an impressive 10 TΩ (Teraohms), allowing for accurate assessment of both healthy and degraded insulation.
- Automatic Calculation of Diagnostic Ratios: A key differentiator is its ability to automatically calculate and display critical diagnostic ratios:
- Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR): (1-minute reading / 30-second reading) – Helps detect moisture and contaminants in insulation.
- Polarization Index (PI): (10-minute reading / 1-minute reading) – Provides a long-term assessment of insulation condition and dryness. User-programmable PI ratio times are also available.
- Dielectric Discharge (DD): Measures current after a minute of discharge relative to test voltage and capacitance, indicating the presence of multiple layers of insulation or issues like delamination.
