The Megger TXL890 is a high-capacity Extra Load Unit designed to work in tandem with Megger’s TORKEL series of battery discharge testers (such as the 800 and 900 series).
Core Purpose: It provides massive additional current draw when capacity testing large industrial battery banks, allowing you to simulate heavy, real-world loads that a base TORKEL unit cannot handle on its own.
Power Capacity: It is the most powerful model in the TXL lineup, capable of safely dissipating up to 15.4 kW of power.
How It Integrates: The TXL890 connects directly to the battery, but the TORKEL unit acts as the master controller. The TORKEL automatically regulates the TXL890’s discharge rate to maintain a precise constant current or constant power test.
Scalability: If 15.4 kW is not enough, you can link multiple TXL units together in parallel to achieve total discharge currents in the kilo-amp (kA) range
Because the unit has a strict maximum power dissipation limit of 15.4 kW, the maximum current it can draw scales inversely with the voltage of the battery bank you are testing:
Maximum DC Voltage: 480 V
Maximum Current (Absolute): 62 A (at lower voltages)
Maximum Current at Peak Voltage (480 V): 32 A
The TXL series is designed in a tall, vented chassis to allow internal fans to dissipate that massive amount of heat straight up.
